The department of school education and literacy has extended the exemptions availed by differently abled children in SSLC and II PU exams to those taking class 1-9 exams too. Now, with the government introducing common assessment for classes 5, 8 and 9, the department wants to extend these exemptions to students of classes 1-9 as well.
The exam relaxations include facilities for a scribe, additional time, separate questions, and the provision of simple calculators. Candidates with visual impairment, locomotor disability, neurological problems, or other disabilities in writing can use the help of scribes. Candidates who are deaf, blind, and have muscular dystrophy along with a learning disability will have an exemption in languages.
Alternate questions should also be made available for students with certain disabilities. Students will also have the flexibility to choose subjects. Those with learning or intellectual disabilities and vision impairment can skip mathematics and science and opt for subjects like sociology, Carnatic music, economics, political science, and Hindustani music.
